Job Description

Bub and Grandma’s Pizza is seeking a Pizza Lead to help us launch and operate our new restaurant in Highland Park. 

Applicants should be well-versed/interested in the areas of dough and pizza, specifically the large, thin crust pies of New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut. This is a hands-on, hourly role ideal for someone comfortable working in a high volume, fast-paced, energetic environment, with a strong emphasis on accuracy, consistency and teamwork. The ideal candidate is not only an exceptional pizza cook, but also a skilled communicator – clear, kind, and organized in both in-person and digital settings. 

The Pizza Lead works closely with managers, leads, and staff to maintain a consistent product and a smooth flow of service. They are expected to assist with training peers on specific kitchen tasks and techniques as directed by kitchen leadership.

Reports to: Head Chef, Owner, Head of Bread and Pastry

RESPONSIBILITIES

Pizza & Dough:

• Execute pizza prep, stretching, topping, and baking according to set standards of consistency, quality, and presentation. 
• Assist in dough management, including receiving, proper storage, handling, proofing, and daily rotation.
• Maintain a strong working knowledge of our dough production process and support refinements as directed by kitchen leadership.

Kitchen Operations:

• Work the pizza line during service, ensuring accurate, timely execution of tasks.
• Follow kitchen systems and workflows as directed by the Head Chef. 
• Assist with regular station checks and maintain service readiness. 
• Provide feedback to kitchen leadership on ways to improve both operational efficiency and the physical layout of the space to support a smoother workflow.
• Monitor and maintain cleanliness, safety, and health code compliance.

Training:

• Help train new team members on dough handling, pizza-making techniques, and station responsibilities under the guidance of kitchen leadership.
• Foster a respectful and collaborative work environment through clear communication and a positive attitude. 
• Take on additional duties as assigned by managers to support the kitchen and team.

REQUIREMENTS

• Ability to work full-time (5 days/week, ~8 hours/day), including weekends 
• Solves problems proactively, not reactively
• Excellent and prompt verbal and written communication
• Familiarity with Google Sheets/Excel
• Sound, smart, compassionate communicator and leader
• Comfortable working on your feet for long periods and lifting up to 50 lbs.
• Experience in a high-volume kitchen preferred
