Job Description

We are hiring 2 Postdoctoral Research Fellows or junior faculty (non-tenure track Instructor or Assistant Professor) to join the global Cleveland Clinic Genome Center () directed by Dr. Feixiong Cheng at the Cleveland Clinic Lerner Research Institute and Case Western Reserve University. The primary goal of the Genome Center is to create and combine tools from experimental systems biology assays (PMID:36217030 [ Nature Biotechnology 2024 & 2023 [Journal Cover]), artificial intelligence (PMID:35411337 [ Nature Machine Intelligence 2022]), genomics and multi-omics (PMIDs:33558758 [ Nature Genetics 2021], 33514395 [ Genome Biology 2021], and 33627474 [ Genome Research 2021]), electronic health records (100 million electronic patient records, PMID:32984792 [ Lancet Digital Health 2020]), and network medicine (PMIDs:35572351 [ Nature Aging 2021], 31375661, 30002366 and 30867426 [ Nature Communications 2018, 2019a and 2019b]) to address challenging questions in human disease and health. Our work focuses on Alzheimer’s disease, cancer, and heart disease, which could have a major impact in identifying real-world big data-driven diagnostic biomarkers and therapeutic targets for precision medicine and drug discovery (PMIDs:36450252 [ Cell Reports 2024 & 2022], 33852912 [ Cell 2021], 36331056 & 36254161 [ Alzheimer's & Dementia 2023 and 2022], and 30988527 [ Nature Neuroscience 2019]). A competitive compensation and benefits package will be offered.

Highly motivated candidates (both wet and dry lab) will join our multi-institution and federally funded research projects focused on generating, analyzing, visualizing, and mining real-world (e.g., EHRs) and experimental data that profile the molecular state of human cells and tissues using interactomics (protein-protein interactions), functional genomics ( CRISPRi/CRISPRa and gene editing ) , transcriptomics, proteomics, radiomics, and metabolomics. The postdoctoral fellow or junior faculty member (Project Scientist or Research Associate) will have great opportunities to collaborate with diverse groups of physicians, geneticists, and computational/experimental biologists, and get access the large-scale patient data at the IBM-CC Accelerator Discovery Program (the first Quantum Computer at the Cleveland Clinic Main Campus), Genomic Medicine Institute, Miller Family Heart & Vascular Institute, Taussig Cancer Institute at Cleveland Clinic, The Cleveland Alzheimer's Disease Research Center (CADRC) at the Cleveland Clinic Lou Ruvo Center for Brain Health, and Case Western Reserve University.

Requirements:

  1. Wet lab: Strong research experience in functional genomics ( TALEN/CRISPR screening, FACS, next generation sequencing library preparation ) and patient iPSC-derived neuron/microglia/astrocyte models and brain organoids will be plus.
  2. Dry lab: Highly motivated candidates with a PhD/MD degree in bioinformatics , genome science , systems biology, biomedical informatics, computational biology, machine learning, data science, drug discovery, or related fields are encouraged to apply.
  3. Strong computational backgrounds, proficiency in at least one programming language (e.g., R, Python, Perl, C++, Java) and knowledge of statistics and mathematics are required.
  4. Training experience in artificial intelligence (such as machine learning and deep learning), experience working in a high-performance computing cluster environment, and experience working with Alzheimer’s Disease Sequencing Project (ADSP), TopMed, TCGA, ICGC, GTEx, 1000 Genomes, UK-biobank, ENCODE, ExAC, or other large-scale DNA/RNA-seq (including bulk and single-cell/nucleus) datasets is highly preferred.
  5. A good understanding of biology, genetics, genomics, cell signaling networks, gene regulatory networks, and the human protein-protein interactome is also preferred.
  6. Proficiency in spoken and written English is required.

How to Apply: Applicants should send a cover letter describing your research experience/skills and research statement/plan (2-3 pages), a curriculum vitae and the contact information of three referees to Dr. Feixiong Cheng ( chengf@ccf.org ) with the subject line ‘Postdoc-Application - Your Name’ or ‘Junior Faculty-Application – Your Name’. Application Deadline: Positions are open immediately until August 1 st , 2025 or filled.
